Crieff
2nds crashed for the second consecutive
year to this team from the central
highlands. The two hour drive home for
the visitors must have been made sweeter
by the nerve jangling nature of the
victory. Only the true cricket
enthusiast would have attempted a game
with the forecast predicted for last
Sunday. With players prepared to brave
the persistent drizzle there were
however only two interruptions to this
twenty over per side match.
Laggan
batted first and made sixty for the loss
of six wickets. Best players for Crieff
were Dominic Mestecky who returned
figures of two wickets for seven runs
and Chantelle De Lange who claimed two
wickets for ten runs. Cameron Gauld and
David Frost were the only other wicket
takers with one apiece.
Crieff
started the run chase well but lost the
game when they failed to score a single
run for four sucessive overs in the
middle of the innings. Players were
frantically retired in a bid to try and
jump start the pursuit. In the end a
scintillating eighteen from Cameron
Gauld narrowly failed to make the
difference as Crieff ran out of overs
with a total of fifty nine for the loss
of six wickets.
This
team included five players from the
junior age group who train on a Monday
evening. Great credit is due to them for
their skill and spirit against a much
older team and in very adverse
conditions.
