The Braidhaugh, basking in the glorious
early summer sunshine of last Tuesday evening, witnessed a feast of
runs in the school versus club return match between Morrisons and Crieff
C.C. The opening encounter earlier this season saw an extremely close
game settled in the final over by a margin of only two runs. Morrisons
fielded first and made immediate inroads into the Crieff top order. D
Frost and S Jones were able to score only two runs off twenty seven
deliveries before being returned to the clubhouse. Their departure left
captain D Mestecky no option but to send out his middle order
big-hitters. M Anjum and J Roberts followed the game plan to the letter
in compiling totals of sixty six and seventeen respectively. M Anjum's
departure, caught on the boundary by C Gauld, let in L DeLange who
continued the emphatic assault on the visiting bowlers. He claimed
twenty nine runs off only twelve balls. Crieff finished their twenty
overs with the competitive total of one hundred and twenty seven runs
for three wickets. Morrisons lost only six wickets in chasing down the
total but were unable to really unsettle the Crieff bowlers. L Roberts
conceded most runs, twenty nine off three overs, but he also took two
wickets. The rest of the Crieff bowlers all kept very tidy figures with
skipper Daniel Mestecky managing to do both, claiming three wickets for
ten off four overs. Crieffs only other wicket-taker was D Frost who
bowled three overs for eleven runs and took the only other Morrisons
wicket to fall.
In the end the biggest winning margin
for some time. Nonetheless this was a game of importance to both sides
and a wonderful chance to see the up-and-coming Crieff youngsters C
White and M Lewis in action for the club, playing the senior version of
the game.
