A windy, sunny Braidhaugh witnessed
another patchy display from a Crieff team that are struggling to put
together any kind batting total. With generally good fielding
support the Crieff bowlers are producing consistently good
performances so far this season. Saturdays game against Rossie
Priory was a case in point. Rossie opted to bat first and played
positively from the start. They raced to sixty off the first ten
overs for the loss of only one wicket. A sustained effort over the
next two hours saw Crieff first steady the run rate then begin to
exert some pressure in their turn. Rossie lost their final wicket
some five overs short of their allocation but nonetheless with a
very competitive total of one hundred and seventy seven.
Crieff therefore had fifty overs to
attack this total. The sorry story of this match was that they were
bowled out in only twenty sixth over for a total of one hundred and
one. Players need to practice and the scorecard tells no
lies. Highlight of the day was a fighting rearguard action by P
Mestecky who top-scored in the match with fifty three.
